đŻ Actionable Tip
Reduce customer acquisition costs
What? Work with local businesses to help each other get new customers. Team up with places like health food stores, yoga studios, or sports shops to share customers without spending a lot on ads.
Why? People who visit other health and wellness spots are likely interested in what you offer, too. Partnering is often low-cost or even free, and new customers are more likely to trust you since they hear about you from a place they already like.
Shake hands, kiss babies and go around the neighbourhood!
How? Do these three things before launching your campaign. Hereâs how to start:
Pick a few local businesses that make sense: Look for places that focus on health, like a smoothie bar or yoga center, but that donât compete directly with you.
Create a special offer for each otherâs customers: For example, customers from the health food store could get a free class with you, and your clients could get a discount at the health food store.
Host a simple wellness event together: Plan a day where each business shows off what they do, like a âWellness Dayâ or âHealth Fair.â Everyone invites their own customers, helping each business meet new people.
Use social media to spread the word: Share posts about each otherâs businesses and tag each other to reach even more people online.
By working together with other local businesses, you both get more customers without spending much on ads, and you build trust by connecting through places people already like.
đ° Deep Dive:
How to Get Your First 10 Customers for Your Health & Fitness Business in 8 Steps
Landing your first 10 customers can be challenging, so weâre focusing on it as a key goal. That said, these same steps work just as well for reaching 100 customers - or even 1,000. Weâll cover the BASICS because even the pros always stick to the basics.
1/ Define Your Core Audience, Then Go a Step Deeper
Identify the exact profile of the clients you want. Start with YOUR own experience or story to create a strong foundationâthis gives you an existing network and a relatable story to kick things off.
For example:
Women â Busy Professionals â Young Moms Working Full-Time and Wanting to Be Fit
Understanding their lifestyle and needs helps you create offers and marketing that resonate.
Todayâs market is highly competitive, so if you donât NICHE down, your message will get lost in the crowd, making it harder to attract clients.
A focused audience also allows you to charge more, meaning you only need a handful of clients to be sustainable.
2/ Craft a Standout Introductory Offer
At first, your goal is to gather testimonials and success stories. So, your main job is to get in front of people and share what you do.
This is where a good, low-commitment introductory offer comes in.
It could be a free virtual health audit, a local boot camp in the park, a free masterclass, or a short trial (like a 7-day âKickstart Your Fitnessâ challenge).
These allow people to experience your services before fully committing, plus a free offer is easier to promote and attracts more attention.
3/ Create a Brand Name For Your Program Matching The Target Audience
Using our target audience example from Step 1, choose a name that reflects the experience or transformation youâre offering.
Examples:
Mom Power Hour Transformation Program
Fit & Fierce Moms
Glow & Grow for Busy Ladies
Make sure itâs easy to remember and captures the heart of your business.
But wouldnât it be better to appeal to everyone? Not really.
You need to go niche before you go broad.
Facebook, for instance, started as a campus network for university students.
By narrowing your focus, your OFFER speaks directly to the target audience, making referrals easier and building a community faster.
4/ Announce to the World and Set a Schedule for Consistent Outreach
You may feel like waiting until youâve secured your first few customers before announcing your business, not telling family or friends in case things donât work out.
I understand - weâve all been there. But remember:
âIf you never ask, you will never get.â
Once you have your program and intro offer ready, reach out to your inner circle:
âHey, I just launched âXYZâ and would love your support. Do you know anyone who might be interested in the âINTRO Offerâ? Iâm offering a promo for the first 5 people.â
Start with close friends, then make an announcement on social mediaâFacebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, email - any platform youâve been active on.
Even if you only have a few hundred followers, itâs enough to get started. In the post, mention that youâve been working on this project and itâs officially live. Offer a âFREE Intro Offerâ to anyone who comments. Follow up with everyone who likes or comments to secure your first 1-4 clients.
To keep nurturing your warm audience over the next few months:
Post once or twice a week on social media.
Send email updates or offers monthly to your growing list.
Engage in local forums or groups (both online and offline).
5/ Develop a Simple Content Format
Once your network is informed, focus on staying top-of-mind and positioning yourself as the âgo-to source.â
A handful of people will join you at first; others will be skeptical, which is normal. Youâre just starting, so thereâs little to show for it yet.
But as you gain initial success stories and feedback, youâll have more to share.
Make sure you collect the early day stories and testimonials.
Now that youâve announced, itâs time for passive follow-up through content. Decide on a format you can keep up without burning out, like:
Tips & Tricks: Short, helpful health and fitness tips for busy moms.
Weekly Inspiration: A motivational post with success stories or wellness tips.
Weekly LIVE Q&A Sessions: Answer common fitness and wellness questions for busy moms.
The goal isnât to become a social media influencer but to post at least once a week to keep your network updated.
6/ Choose Tools for Client Management and Communication
Donât overcomplicate things in the beginning.
Use simple tools like Calendly for booking and Google Calendar for tracking. For emails, try free tools like Mailchimp or Beehiiv.
For client interactions, a Facebook group or even a Telegram chat works well. Use Canva to create basic plans, and upgrade to more advanced tools as you start earning revenue.
Social media will be your main lead source. Itâs the best and cheapest method (itâs free!). Hereâs a starting process:
Choose a Platform: Pick where your audience is - Instagram and Facebook work great for fitness.
Content Schedule: Begin by posting twice a week (e.g., tips on Mondays, client stories on Fridays).
Add Calls-to-Action (CTAs): Encourage followers to comment for a free âintro offerâ on every post.
Monitor and Adjust: Notice which content gets engagement and adjust your posts accordingly.
As of this writing, short video content is incredibly effective. If youâre shy about showing your face, you can use voice-overs with B-roll footage. Canva can help with this for free.
Reach out to everyone who interacts with your content.
8/ Additional Tactics for Reaching Prospective Clients
Beyond social media, try these methods:
DM New Followers: Send a quick, friendly message to thank them and invite them to try your services.
Add CTAs in Your Email Signature: Make every email a potential client touchpoint.
Email Your Network: Contact friends, family, and acquaintances to let them know about your business and seasonal offers (like a Summer Challenge or Winter Transformation).
Offer a Referral Bonus: Encourage your first clients to refer others with rewards like a free month or cash bonuses.
